Tycho | Fox Theater

Tycho is finishing up their world tour tonight. And Forrest and I will be there! Can't wait.

P.S. Totally wearing the winner shirt I wore to the last concert.

Office Competition

My teammate, Rex, and I are having a "friendly" standing competition. (I put friendly in quotes because we're both pretty competitive.) The first person to sit down loses.

Wish me luck! I might be here well into the night. :)

Speaking of career changes. Forrest traded Yelp for funemployment 5 weeks ago. Now, he walks around saying nonsense like, "weekends are more relaxing now." lol.

Besides saying ridiculous shit, he has a standing bet with Vova about gym visit frequency. Vova's $1000 says (or dinner at The French Laundry), Forrest will fail to go to the gym at least 90 of 180 days (started 3 weeks ago). It's 12/23, so far.

Another goal that Forrest set and met is walking 100 miles in a week. That's more than a half-marathon/day! He did it last night. Ballin'! Remember when I ran 100 miles in a month?? A month! And that was tough.

Exciting News

I joined Remind! Proof: my mug on the team page (in the last row with the dogs, where I truly belong :).

Leaving Bitcasa (only after ~10 months!) was a really tough call to make. I made so many great friends there, and learned a ton as the lead dev on the team. Ultimately, it came down to figuring out what has been lacking in my experience as an engineer.

For most of my short career, I was assigned the lead role on projects. Certainly, I've appreciated the responsibility entrusted in me (and like to think that I've done well with it). But when Vova and I worked on Cake a few months ago, I saw just how much faster I was learning when there was somebody more experienced to guide me.

Joining Remind put me in an environment where I am learning from peeps more senior than me every day. And since it's a small company (~35 people), I can still have a lot of impact. Call me enamored (it has only been 2 days), but it is exactly what I hoped it would be.

Awesome Beauty Tip

photo via joy the baker

Reading this article (via hn) made me smile the other day. Social studies have proven again and again that physically-attractive people are universally treated better. Ugh, right? Thankfully, that's not the whole story.

This study shows that non-physical traits, how kind, hard-working, respected you are, affect people's perception of your physical attractiveness. Assuming the experiment is sound, how cool is that?! Of course, the skeptic in me is wondering whether you can truly gauge a person attractiveness by what somebody says they're attracted to.

So, beauty tip: be awesome. :)

Perfect Fall Shoe: Loafers

Everlane came out with their loafers last week. Everlane + gamine-staple shoes; what could go wrong? I wear loafers roughly 5 days of the week (this + this), so I was really stoked for the release. But they're just so... pointy. Anyone else have this feeling?

Instead of Everlane, I'm dreaming of this lovely tasseled wonder above.

Falling Back to Running

I signed up for a 10K a few months ago. Nico convinced me. He signed up to run a 1/2 marathon. And, so, we ran on Sunday!

Nico beat his target time like a champ. I missed mine (0:55) by 2 minutes. But given that I did no training, and my foot was out of commission most of last month, I consider it a success.

Isn't fall the perfect time to get back to running?
