Eggs on camping stove

File this one under random. I've cooked many meals in the backcountry, but I can't figure the simplest one out. Seeking advice...

How do you cook eggs on a camping stove? I'm using a Snow Peak stove and titanium cookware. And I do exactly what you'd expect: put a little oil in the pan, wait for it to shimmer, and crack a couple of eggs into the pan. Sounds OK, right?

Nope! It seems to burn on contact. So, by the time the eggs are cooked, the bottom is really quite unpleasant to eat. You have to layer the avocado on pretty thick to save the breakfast sandwich. :) This doesn't happen to me at home, so it must be related to the thermal conductivity of titanium.

I'll probably try using butter instead of oil next time. Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Anyone?

  1. I've got no advice to offer, but that avocado toast does still look pretty amazing. Also, I'm re-joining the blog world! Would love to have ya follow along.

  2. I don't have a campstove like that but you could try adding some water to the pan along with the butter/oil and then cover it with a lid once the eggs are in. It might cool the pan a bit and poach the eggs a bit quicker before they blacken on the bottom
