Love What You Eat, Eat What You Love

So, Sunday, for whatever reason, we decided to have smoked turkey for dinner. And what has to come with turkey? A Thanksgiving dinner, of course. The Bakalors go all out on Thanksgiving. The grocery list is compiled a couple of weeks before the dinner, the oven schedule is decided upon about a week in advance, the cooking begins a couple of days in anticipation of THE dinner of the year. I suppose we had a little practice-thanksgiving last weekend.

I made this pear tart that I make every year. It's really delicious, though a bit of a pain in the ass to make. I can post the recipe here if anybody is interested.

Next up is this mushroom pie. Another dish I make every year and pretty much only once a year. I absolutely love this. I used to think that mashed potatoes were THE side dish of Thanksgiving, but this totally blew the Nessie out of the water.

The crust is probably the best part and it's so easy to make and work with. It's a sour cream crust. Yum! As for the filling, it's the easiest thing in the world. Chop up a bunch of mushrooms, saute them with onions, add some thyme and a package of cream cheese. The hardest thing is to refrain from eating all of it until the crust is finished and it's ready to go in the oven. I seriously make it with extra mushrooms because I can't resist eating it.

The lattice top ties everything together. So pretty. (Yes, I know, one edge got burnt. That's mainly a result of me trying to pack and cook at the same time and not paying attention.)

I think that crimping the edge is difficult. I am very proud of my crimping job on this pie. It usually looks like a mess, but mama taught me how to do it nicely the last time we made a pie together.

Don't these look awesome? I can tell you they tasted pretty great. I can totally put recipes in this post, just let me know.
