Day 104: Lactation consultant

 

I scheduled a lactation consultation while we were in Argentina, This woman was highly recommended by the community and was booked out for week. Finally this was the day. As soon as she saw Tommy she said, "Oh, you don't have a problem. He looks very well fed." Fair. But she brought up her huge suitcase of tools and we got to nursing.

As soon as she heard Tommy nursing, she said "You have an immediate letdown and an oversupply." She got all that from the first couple of seconds. Damn she's good. She weighed Tommy before and after 2 minutes of nursing and he gained an ounce. Basically short feeds are fine and Tommy is fine. He does not, in fact, hate nursing because I'm rotten to the core. He just doesn't like drinking out of a firehose.

Serena wa kind of reserved at first, but then when she realized that I'm an attachment parenting nut, she talked a lot more. Very reassuring way to spend $350.
